A Mother-Line First Year Ceremony: LUGHNASADH 2026
Theme: We honor what came before us, what was created through us, and what will grow beyond us.
Galadriel – Cleansing the Space: Using our besom – sweep clockwise three times while saying the following:
Smoke of air, Fire of Earth, I cleanse this space and fill it with love and mirth.
Moon – Cleansing the people: Using the bell Mom made – Ring three times around each person as they enter.
Moss – Circle Caster: Once everyone has entered the space and is seated or standing, Moss will cast the circle, going around three times while saying the following:
First Pass – I cast this circle round and round to make this a sacred ground. Second pass – Let no negative energy enter this space as we celebrate this time and place. Third Pass – The circle is cast, the way is clear, nothing harmful is welcome here.
Calling Quarters:
Sindy – Air / East
Kim – Fire / South
Moon – Earth / North
Galadriel – Water / West
Moss / Opal – Spirit – lighting the fire.
We’ll each stand at the center near the fire ring, lighting a candle after each invocation, then passing the lighter to the next person. Once all four quarters are called, Opal will greet Spirit, while Moss lights the ceremony fire.
Sindy: East / Air
Spirit of Air, breath of the morning, keeper of stories and whispered wisdom — we welcome you. Carry to us the voices of those who came before. The songs sung, the lessons taught, the words remembered. Join our circle as we honor what has been learned and what is still becoming.
Kim: South / Fire
Spirit of Fire, flame of hearth, spark within our hands — we welcome you. You are the forge, the oven, the candle, the courage to create. Transform our work as you transformed the work of our mothers before us.
Galadriel: West / Water
Spirit of Water, keeper of memory, river connecting all generations — we welcome you.You carried our mothers and their mothers before them.Through tears, laughter, love, and lessons, the river continues.
Moon: North / Earth
Spirit of Earth, oldest mother, keeper of root and bone — we welcome you. You hold every seed that has been planted and every footstep that has brought us here.Continue grounding us as we move forward on our path.
Moss & Opal: Spirit / Fire Pit
Opal saying:
Spirit, unseen yet ever present, heart of all that lives, we welcome you. You are the quiet thread woven through Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, connecting all things seen and unseen. Be with us as we gather in gratitude, honoring those who came before, the work of our hands, and the harvest before us.Dwell at the center of this circle and within each of us as we move through this ceremony.

Moon, Opal, and Moss stand near the altar
Kim and Sindy will approach them.
Kim:
A year ago, we chose this path with open hands and willing hearts. Through study, practice, and the turning of the seasons, we have gathered the first harvest of our journey. Today, we stand not at an ending, but at the threshold of all that is still to come.
We now welcome those who have guided our steps, that they may present us with the cords that mark not only the time we have walked, but the path we continue to follow.
We will be taking Sindy through the entire ceremony first.
Cord Ceremony
Moss:
“We have heard your words and respect your dedication.
Are you prepared to vow before The Grove that you
follow the path of kindness to the best of your ability?”
Dedicant answers in their own words
Moon:
“And to those of us gathered here, do each of you vow
to assist this dedicant in staying on this path to the best of your
ability?” Members answer with cheers and howls.
Opal:
“Then let us take your measure and gird your hips for this journey.”
Measure, cut, and add the Athame or an additional cord for the 2nd and 3rd years.
Moss:
“We present you with this athame to help with the
challenges ahead. May you be well prepared to move forward on your path.” The Knot of Hercules is tied.
“We wish you Healing and Protection on your way.”
Naming Ceremony
Moon:
“At this time, you have the option to choose a new name.
There is no obligation, but is there a name you would like to share with us?” Dedicant answers.
Introduction Ceremony
Opal:
The Dedicant is introduced to each of the directions, then to the sky, ground, Spirit, and the moon by their new name.
Herald
Moss:
“Hear ye, hear ye. _____________ first year has ended. The new year will begin. Huzzah! More howls and cheers

Release: Thank you, Spirit. We release you.
